Phew! What a day - mentally and physically tiring.
Late breakfast - girls appreciate what I would call a lie in and what they think still early!
Then it was off to the club to enjoy some time building the team together. Starting off with some theory of psychological safety and the first level inclusion and second level learning being the key places to start. Divided into 7 teams we had paint a picture that had been dividied into 8 pieces and each team had a portion of the pitcture to paint. However, only the team captains could look at the picture we were trying to recreate, we had to framlinghamfy it and only the captains could speak to each other, and the captains were not allowed to touch the paper, paint, brushes or pens. Discovery: clear communication is key; asking questions to gain understanding is key; ensuring we get key information between teams is key - in particular in this instance, where the pictures join we get a better understanding of how they link together so we dont end up with three arms!
Over lunch we watched the Waterloo Ducks men play against Mannheim. A fair few Olympians on the field of play. Great to watch and expose the girls to that sort of level.
After lunch some more team building games. We took their senses away with blindfolds and the leaders (unblindfolded) had to get their team into different shapes using a piece of rope to outline the shape. Learning: how to motivate your team as a leader to stay switched on and focused.
Then it was off to Koeizo a mixture between escape room and high ropes, learning to be a secret agent. 4 different districts to conquer and you had to work together to accumulate points. First district being mental and team work. Second district being a physical one with team work and third district being mental (think I let my team down on that one!) and the last district being the high ropes course. Winners to be announced this morning. A great way to utilise all the mornings efforts learning how to work in a team.
Finally, back to Watducks for dinner and debrief the day - what learning are we taking into the hockey tomorrow! A fair few things!
Having seen some anxious faces in the morning worrying about the unknown the day would bring to the mood in the camp at the end of the day with more chat and excitement it was without doubt a worthwhile day.
Excited to see what the hockey brings tomorrow.
