Success for 7s stars

On a blustery day in Ipswich, the U18 7s squad won the Plate Tournament for the second successive year at the Northampton Saints & Redrow Homes 7s.

The opening match against the hosts was tight and at 19-22 and in possession of the ball with time running out, it seemed like the squad might win the opener. However, a contentious decision allowed Ipswich to reclaim possession and score two late tries. A disappointing performance against Bedford School followed before convincing wins against Samuel Whitbread Academy and the Cambridge Vipers Academy. The squad just missed out on qualifying for the Cup on tries scored.

Samuel Whitbread were again put to the sword in the Plate quarter-final and the team then defeated last year's Cup winners, Moulton College, in the semi-finals. Wisbech Grammar School awaited in the Final and the team were well in control before defensive lapses let the opposition back into the game. However, the spirit of the team enabled them to hang on for a 28-24 victory.

This was a positive start to the 7s campaign and in Harry Williamson (S) we were fortunate to have one of the most effective players in the Tournament.
